Summer Assignment - Jan 2019
1. Read/Review the Oxford Book chapter on Special Relativity (pp. 507-528) and work through every solved example embedded in the chapter, really spend some time thinking about Lorentz Transformations (there are some variations of the formula we did not have time to do last semester) and really, really try to wrap your head around Space-Time diagrams. Oxford Text link is under RESOURCES on my Weebly site.
2. Once you feel like you have reviewed the concepts sufficiently, go to the end of the chapter (pp.544-545) and write out the answers to problems #1-8.
3. Go through ALL of your IA sample research questions and PICK 3 of the most promising, using the following criteria:
A. Can you take reliable measurements using only the materials you have previously used in Mr. Supplee's or my class?
B. Can you create 5 quantitative testing conditions and perform at least 5 trials in each in a reasonable amount of time?
C. Will your data allow you to graph / linearize the measurements so that the slope is meaningful?
D. Are you trying to answer an obvious questions? In other words, will answering your RQ help you learn something new and sufficiently complex?
Bring this completed work to the first day of class. See you then!

Summer Assignment - Jan 2019
1. Read/Review the Oxford Book chapter on Special Relativity (pp. 507-528) and work through every solved example embedded in the chapter, really spend some time thinking about Lorentz Transformations (there are some variations of the formula we did not have time to do last semester) and really, really try to wrap your head around Space-Time diagrams. Oxford Text link is under RESOURCES on my Weebly site.
2. Once you feel like you have reviewed the concepts sufficiently, go to the end of the chapter (pp.544-545) and write out the answers to problems #1-8.
3. Go through ALL of your IA sample research questions and PICK 3 of the most promising, using the following criteria:
A. Can you take reliable measurements using only the materials you have previously used in Mr. Supplee's or my class?
B. Can you create 5 quantitative testing conditions and perform at least 5 trials in each in a reasonable amount of time?
C. Will your data allow you to graph / linearize the measurements so that the slope is meaningful?
D. Are you trying to answer an obvious questions? In other words, will answering your RQ help you learn something new and sufficiently complex?
Bring this completed work to the first day of class. See you then!
